Orthodontist

On Monday, both Angelina and Dash had appointments with Dr. Harvey, an orthodontist in Fargo. For Angelina, this is not a new experience. She has visited twice ... after the first visit, she had FIVE baby teeth extracted (in two appointments - not sure if that is more or less worrisome, but she was a trooper) to help ease the crowding of permanent teeth.

After Monday, both are scheduled to begin treatment at the end of the month. Angelina will start Phase I (expander to increase room for permanent teeth) and Dash will get braces. It's a bit humorous at this point, because they are both excited!! Having worn braces for three years myself and remembering the pain, I don't want to squash their enthusiasm. The cost is NOT humorous to their dad and I. Hopefully getting the problems corrected now will lead to healthy teeth well into their elderly years ... and instill an incentive for keeping their teeth healthy and clean right now.

I think I'll stock up on Corned Beef Hash; my soft food of choice during my 'braces' years.

  1. My oldest is in an expander now too. And she was also excited! It actually isn't as bad as I expected. It sounds horrible, but she doesn't seem to be bothered by it and hasn't needed tylenol etc - which another mom at the orthodontist advised me to stock up on...
It does make her talk a little funny though!

Good luck with those bills. AARRGGHH!

  2. Gosh, they start them young! Glad they are excited, I'm sure that will wear off quickly. Although, not they can pick their colors of bands, etc, kids seem to like that!
