The Library

I took all the kids to the library in Valley City yesterday. Zeke, Angelina and Dash received their first-ever library cards (well, Zeke and Angelina will get their actual cards at the next visit). Each will be able to check out 10 books with their card. Graham will continue to use my card ... he had a lot of fun picking out books.

They all participated in the library's summer reading program; on Friday, they turned in their reading sheets, received a certificate of completion, and picked out a home-made book bag. It would have been nice if each picked out a different color bag, but all the boys chose green camoflage bags. I tried convicing Graham to exchange, but it was a no-go. Guess I'll have to learn how to use the embroidery hoop on my new sewing machine - it's a good excuse to learn!

Angelina's choice of bags & books ... she only chose Nancy Drew and American Girl. At the pace she read's, the American Girls - all eight - will be read by the end of the weekend. ** Good thing her younger brother's pick cool books; she's already snagged on of their Magic Schoolbus.

Graham and Zeke's bags. Zeke chose about 4 Jigsaw Jones and mixed it up with Magic Schoolbus. I guess he's planning on someone (ie. ME or Angelina) having time to read a lot of books out loud.

Dash's book bag and a couple of his selections; he has at least two Hardy Boys. He didn't have time to find 10 ... he really wanted to find some Science Fiction. The library didn't have any sci-fi titles by C.S. Lewis or Isaac Asimov ... not sure what's appropriate in sci-fi for a 12yo reader beyond those authors, so ideas would be appreciated.

The good news is that we made it to the library and got out of the library without fuss, but them had to detour to the grocery store for diapers ... I wonder which helper forgot to put the diaper bag in the van??? After that was taken care of, the 'new to them' books entertained the kids while I spent about 30 minutes in the quilt shop finding a few fabrics to complete a future project supply list.

We would have made it home without further incident if Graham hadn't spit out his treat on his white polo ... the treat was a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie! What child/person, in their right mind, would spit out a Girl Scout cookie!!! The shirt is soaking in Oxi-Clean (sure hope that special powder lives up to it's claims on this job).
