This blog is a record of our daily life ... the joys and struggles of raising our little flock to love life and the author of life, our Lord. There are many similarities between Christ's followers and a flock of sheep, thus the name of this blog. I'm trying to 'shepherd' my little flock to know and love Christ - this is my vocation.

Poor mama rabbit
Well, mama rabbit is all alone, now. Her little brood didn't live long. Next time, we'll be a little more prepared and hopefully the babies will thrive. I think mama was completely overwelmed with the presence of a male rabbit and so many human interrupters, albeit with good intentions, trying to give her a quiet spot to nest with her babies. In the meantime, I want the kids to learn a little bit more about rabbits before another batch arrives - library (or Barnes & Noble), here we come!

OHhhhhhh,I was looking forward to pictures. Poor mama rabbit. Your poor kiddos!
ReplyDeleteI knew nothing about that male rabbit thing...what do they do in the wild?
I suppose the mama rabbit usually has a den to herself and the males probably roam a territory. Of course, this is all conjecture because I haven't read a thing about wild rabbits!!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness the kids aren't too broke up. They knew it wasn't good right away because I told them the babies hadn't been in a nest - they have no fur when they are born and need at least some protection.
Rabbit gestation is quite short, only about 3 weeks, if memory serves me. So for domestic rabbits, it's best to keep them separated or you could have a lot of rabbits very quickly.
I'll have to post more as I learn & remember more.
