The kids and I got together with friends – The Grant Family - to celebrate All Saints Day and have a bit of fun. We started our celebration with the Litany of Saints and a saint parade. Each child gave a few clues about his or her saint so the rest of us could guess their saint.
While Sarah and I worked on preparing lunch, the kids created a tissue paper Saintly Spiritual Bouquet. The boys each did one and the older girls rounded out the bouquet by making a flower for each of the little kids.
It’s truly surprising how fast the time goes when you are having fun!
The menu consisted of Tuna Toasties, St. Lucy’s eyeball wraps, Bone Salad, Martyr Punch, Holy Ghost cookies, Halo Pretzels, Soul Cakes (they actually look like hot-crossed buns), and Mary’s Tears (pumpkin seeds). Seriously, my favorite was the St. Lucy eyeball wraps. I’ll have to get the recipe from Sarah and re-create it for a special post. I’m not quite sure how many I ate!
After lunch, the kids played outside (it was a gorgeous day!), played a black-out game of Saint Bingo complete with prizes for everyone, and had snacks – St. Bartholomew’s Brew (again, this was a great recipe – I hope to post it later) and St. Hildegard’s produce (basically a veggie tray with dip). Sarah and I had about a half hour to put our feet up, and then it was time to pack up everyone and everything.
Zeke at St. Patrick
Miss Grant as St. Bridget
Graham as St. George
Angelina is holding Louis, who is St. Joseph. His costume didn’t last long, but he was cute.
Dash as St. Gregory, a German monk. Wow, can you tell he’s had a growth spurt!
Mr. Grant as St. Kolbe. Yes, I told you I’d post the crazy one…
Angelina as St. Winnifred
Miss Grant as St. Gemma
Angelina & Ms. Grant with the Saintly Spiritual Bouquet, which will be given to friends.

A cute blast from the past of Angelina and Miss Grant at a past All Saints Day Party.
Looks like so much fun!!! I was just thinking how much fun a small party with only one or 2 families would be. I love the food you all had (I love themes)! Sarah's Bone salad, why didn't I think of that one?
ReplyDeleteMight have to go get some nutter butters....
Can't wait to see the recipes!!
Great costumes, wish we could have been there!! Maybe next year?
Jamie, it would be fun to get together next year. All Saints is on a Tuesday next year. The kids were off-the-wall loud, but it was a blast. The time just goes so incredibly fast, I'm sure you think the same when you get-together with Sarah & kids.
ReplyDeleteJust a crazy day though ... what I didn't write about: Leo hadn't slept well for the two previous nights and that morning he got a rash all over. We both think it was roseola - harmless, but cranky-kid creating. And, the sink in Sarah's basement backed up. It wasn't terrible thank goodness, but she didn't dare run her dishwasher or use the upstairs sink after that. Thank goodness we'd used paper plates and cups and forks for dinner! So, everytime something goofy happened, we'd just say 'Happy All Saints Day!' and give each other a hug.
I would love to host at my house. We'll just have to see what the next year brings!
These are awesome!! My kids are so impressed with your photography skills and seeing themselves (me too!). It really summed up our wonderful Feast Day!
ReplyDeleteWe ALL had a wonderful time! (even through backed-up and overflowing sinks in the basement, a fussy but cute soon to be 1 yr old, and extra- energized little Saints! :)
Looking forward to next year when there will be one more little Saint to dress! :)
PS You can alert your little saints to the news as well - mine had a wonderful surprise the night of All Saints! There wasn't a dry eye in the house :)
