Joining Barbara in commemorating the coming year in once a week posts … just whatever is going on in your life: the mundane, the crazy, the normal, the everyday.

Last night ended, let’s just say, not the way I’d have liked.  Louis had his first ever bout with a stomach virus.  Thankfully it was before bedtime so I didn’t need to wash king-sized sheets (he does sleep with us).  Also very thankful he still nurses … much easier to keep a little one hydrated.  So, after trying the pack n’ play and cleaning it, I decided a little nest on the floor was better.  And it was.

About 1:30a after three loads of laundry, I was finally able to close my eyes on the couch.  I pray all the rest of us are ‘safe’.  Time will tell.

It’s lunchtime and he’s tuckered out.

Angelina made cupcakes with a mix and frosting I had on hand.  We all enjoyed one … or two…

Mmmm… I wonder who is behind in dish washing duty??

Thank goodness it’s Friday!!

Thankful Thursday

I am thankful for the following:
1. It’s Thursday, which means it’s Friday TOMORROW!
2. I’m at home for the next few days.
3. We are all slowly recovering from colds = immunity is being improved.
4. My husband is grocery shopping this afternoon (shocker!).
5. School is almost done for the day.
6. My husband’s replacement printer arrived late last night.
7. Surely today they will have plowed the county road…
8. Juicy Anjou pears in season this time of year.
9. Fresh bread.
10. Little boys who love to sweep (does it matter if he doesn’t put all the dirt in a pile??)

A couple other bloggers in my reader are joining Barbara (by the way, the music connected to her blog is soooo very peaceful) in commemorating the coming year in once a week posts … just whatever is going on in your life: the mundane, the crazy, the normal, the everyday.  I like this kind of snapshot posting, so decided to join.

My parents gave me this purse for Christmas last year … all year, I was reminding myself (everytime I looked at it in the drawer) to remember to take it out in time to use for “Christmas”.  I REMEMBERED!

259

We usually just put our Christmas pics, letters, and cards in a large bowl on the end table when we are done reading them.  I’ve always wanted to do something different to dispaly the photos … this year, I did and we’ve so enjoyed seeing them everyday in our kitchen.

As it was a long week, hubby brought flowers home on Thursday.  They smell wonderful.

Who doesn’t just love little butts sticking up in the air!

Plenty of snow to be moved and played in around the yard.

Home… finally and thankfully and gratefully.

Our train ride home from Whitefish, MT was delayed for two days, so our family didn’t arrive home until Wednesday.  Angelina had her ‘last in a 3-part series’ ortho appointment on Wednesday afternoon, so she and I headed directly to Fargo (Thanks to Grandma Green Acres, who brought a vehicle up to Valley City for us!  Tante Kiki, who flew back to Germany on Thursday, rode with us, so I didn’t have any trouble staying awake on the way to Fargo).  We arrived back at the farm in time to unload groceries and put our feet up for just a bit before heading to bed.

Thursday, we needed to leave by 7:30am for my SIL’s father’s funeral.  Just Angelina, Louis and I headed up to Mayville.  We didn’t stay long afterwards as we will see the family again soon and we were quite anxious to get home.  If you can, please add my SIL to your prayers.  She’s due with her third in February and is worried about making it that far in her pregnancy.

Anyway, just wanted to let friends and family know we are home, but I’m so behind up in laundry, cooking, chores and schoolwork that I doubt I’ll have time to post about our awesome trip (and yes, that includes the extra two days spent in Whitefish!) for at least a few more days, if not a week.

Here’s a quick pic, taken by cell phone on the mountain…

Part 5: 1/1/11

219

Dash and my dad in front of the lodge where we stayed on this trip.  Evergreen had two units and a basement apartment.  We all fit.

220

There was a lot of snow, which made for good skiing and snow-boarding and sledding.

My niece, above.  She’s absolutely adorable, and won’t let the ‘boys’ in her class get too far ahead.  In fact she made it down the hill quicker quite often.

225

This is my Graham.  Cute, cute, cute!  He loved the helmet, thought it made him faster.

We had a little scare with keys.  A set of keys to one of the rented vehicles (not our van, thank goodness) was lost for a couple of hours.  Of course, this was during the time when we needed the vehicles to get everyone to Mass!  But, Eric made two trips and everyone in the group made it to Mass.  We all prayed for a special intention … and the keys were found about an hour after Mass.  Anyway, my brother Doug is always one to poke fun.

255

Eric and I served the meal on our last night together in Whitefish.  It was going to be Burrito Lasagna, but it morphed into ‘create your own’ burritos.  We served it up with Strawberry Margaritas and topped it with Fake Fried Ice Cream.  All in all, it turned out well.  The Margaritas helped!

256

And that, my dear friends and family, is the end of the pictures.  We were in Whitefish another couple days, but I didn’t take a single snapshot!  We were all supposed to leave on the train early Sunday morn, but our train was ‘cancelled’.  We were all left messages telling us to ‘find alternative transportation’!!  Needless to say, the last day was a bit chaotic.  However, thanks to Pat, who travels Amtrak … A LOT… all who wanted to get back on the train in a few days were able.  My mom called a hotel and made reservations within minutes, so we had a place to stay (couldn’t stay at the condos because the next party was due to arrive Sunday afternoon).  So, on Sunday we all departed, in different ways.

Eric, the kids, and I skied while Louis spent his first day ever in childcare.  I was able to go in whenever needed to nurse him (the Kid Center is located on the mountain).  My brother Collin’s family and my parents packed up and hung around town until they could check into the hotel.  Pat and Anna hung around until they needed to head for the airport in the early afternoon.  Doug’s family, Julianne’s family and Eric M. all left by vehicle early Sunday to make the trek back to ND and MN.

On Monday, Collin and my dad took a guided snowmobile trip.  They had an amazing time.  Anne, my SIL, and I scheduled massages and my mom was treated to a pedicure.  Eric and the kids went to a waterpark for the afternoon.

Tuesday, January 4, the rest of us finally boarded the train for the trek home.  We arrived in Stanley in the middle of the night and then loaded our vehicles and drove to my parents’ farm for a few hours sleep.  We left at 7am the next morn because Angelina had an ortho appt in Fargo that afternoon.

I’m still trying to catch up.  Thank goodness it’s winter and I’ll get a few storm days to make me feel sane again!  While we are all a little more leery about train travel in winter, it’s still a wonderful way to travel with kids.

See the peace in this picture.  I can feel it.

Have a very happy day.
