I’m thankful for the following today:
This whole week, I have felt like I’m living in the eye of a tornado ... a tornado created by the quarter- and half-adults living around me. If I stay in one spot, everything is pretty good and stays clean. But, that’s impossible for a mom because the laundry must be moved and folded, dinner must be prepared, the baby’s diaper needs changing, etc. These tasks can’t be completed in the same room – at least not in my house – so the ‘eye’ moves.
We’ve been trying to clean the house this whole week because it’s needed it. The kids are enlisted in this task – that gives them ownership of the cleanliness right??? It’ll make them want to keep that particular room clean, right???
NO. BIG. FAT. NO.
My husband told me last night I have to create realistic expectations. Just what is THAT at this point in my life.
I need carmel corn, lots of carmel corn, and Dr. Pepper.
For Today: Monday, November 15, 2010 – Feast of St. Albert the Great
Looking out from my back porch... it’s a grey day. Trees are bare and the garden is completely cleared, now.
I am thinking about... my list. I always have a list going in my head of the things I want to get done in each day or by the end of the week.
I am thankful for...my health; the health of my family; the fact that we haven’t hit any deer (and they haven’t run into us) during all our night driving sessions, the flock of chickens, being almost done with gift shopping, the coming Advent season.
I am reading... ‘Knitting for Dummies’ and another beginning knitting book. I’ve actually had ‘Knitting for Dummies’ for quite some time, so this is the second time around for the first couple chapters.
I am hoping... for a productive and complaint-free week.
I am hearing... the sounds of pages being turned by Dash (he’s working/reading through the Latin text).
From the sewing/craft room (aka. laundry room!)... I am working on knitting a satchel/bag for myself or Angelina. And, we have lots of laundry to be washed after being gone over the weekend.
From the school room... progress! Working to get the kids up to Week 11 in some subjects so that we can end the semester on Week 16.
From the kitchen... baked another batch of pound cake last night; it’s nice to have something sweet in the freezer and the recipe uses six eggs.
State of the house... cleaning the house is a goal for this week. We’ve been gone so much, the house has suffered (which means the mom is suffering, too!). It would be soooo much easier if all residents picked up their belongings or threw trash in the trash – what an idea!
A successful moment... after this weekend, I am almost done with gift shopping. I even got a few good deals for upcoming birthdays.
A few plans for the rest of the week…
Monday: Home all day! I do want to get outside and check the chickens – the Wyandotte’s like to peck tail feathers, so I treated ALL of them with a natural spice spray about 2 weeks ago.
Tuesday: Dance for Angelina
Wednesday: Domestic Diva Day (ie. cleaning)
Thursday: Domestic Diva Day & possibly family pictures
Friday/Saturday/Sunday: Possibly family pictures, Cleaning, and a 4-H meeting
A picture memory...
November 5th of 2009, we brought home a new baby boy. It’s really hard to believe it was more than a year ago, already. He’s such a source of joy for us all; we can’t imagine life without him!
This hunting crew includes my four brothers, my dad and a good friend, my brother’s father-in-law, my husband and my oldest son (who isn’t old enough to hunt, yet, but is certainly a help in walking the coulees!). The guys didn’t much like having their picture taken … this is supposed to be a girl-free weekend. However, my SIL, Anne, and I couldn’t resist!
They actually have a MAP! I suppose to hunters this may be the norm, but I hadn’t ever considered hunting with a map before. Interesting.

They didn’t get a single deer on Friday, which is very out of the ordinary for this crew. Saturday and Sunday netted five total. So, there will be deer sausage to enjoy in the new year.
Things for which to be thankful…
… that’s all the time I have tonight!
Our baby is 1 year old! The past year went incredibly fast. I've cherished the moments even more because I’m getting older … not sure if there will be another little one, ya know? There are lots of pics because we celebrated his birthday over a couple days and in-between ‘hunt's’. His daddy and brother, Dash, were preparing for hunting on Friday morning and didn’t get back until late on his REAL birthday. So, Louis had cake with the cousins and aunties on Friday. He opened presents from his cousins. Early Saturday morn, he opened his gift from Grandpa & Grandma Golden Acres – Grandpa helped free his new riding toy form the plastic ties. He opened his gift from us (Mom & Dad) on Saturday evening after Mass. After returning from the Miller Deer Hunt, we celebrated his birthday with Grandma & Grandpa Green Acres & Tante Lori on Monday afternoon.
Grandma Golden Acres made this Angel Food Farm Cake for Louis (or, as you can see, Leo).
