This has been an event-filled week.  Can you believe it’s the start of a new month already?!?  Hubby and I went to Fargo with Louis on Monday because both Louis and I had check-ups.  I’m relatively healthy and Louis is doing great.  He’s the size of an average tw0-year-old according to the growth charts; although we already knew he was big for his age. 

Tuesday was another basketball scrimmage for Zeke during half-time of the local A-squad game  While we hadn’t planned to stay until the end of the game, we did … making it a late night.

Wednesday was a travel day for the whole family.  My dad and brother, Doug, were honored by the ND Crop Improvement & Seed Association at their annual Board of Directors Dinner.  My brother and his wife didn’t attend because my SIL was scheduled to go into the hospital the next morning for the birth of their third.

Laura went into labor Wednesday night and a little after 4am on Thursday morning, my niece, Mersadie Alayna was born!  We can’t wait to meet her.  This is my parents’ 12th grandchild – 12 in 2012!

Because I finally took down and stored away all the Christmas décor, our mantle was bare … until I found these!  Hard to believe January is almost gone and February starts on Tuesday.

 

Will I get a chance to read this … one of my favorite magazines … this weekend?

We don't even bother with blocking the stairs anymore.  He’s experienced.  I haven’t given him a haircut, yet.  It’s too cute to see the wings!

Yep, this is the ‘kitchen top’.  It’s his new favorite toy; I’m not sure how I feel about this.  I really don’t like it cuz I don’t feel it’s clean if I let him play with it, and I really don’t want to wash it EVERY time he takes it out.

Zeke is the tall kid in the center with a black t-shirt.  It was his first time playing basketball in front of a crowd – half-time of the varsity game on Monday.

Pioneer Woman Cooks cookbook – Meatloaf.  Very good, big batch, froze half for later.

Looking out from my back porch... crisp and cool.  Still covered in snow.  Sparkly white and beautiful.  I LOVE the snow …

I am thankful for... online shopping, Angelina’s quick recovery from her oral surgery, a clean kitchen, a happy baby, humor in the day.

I am reading… homeschool catalogs!  Also reading a silly romance novel on kindle … it was inexpensive … it’s fluff.  Sometimes I need a little fluff.

I am hearing... silence – it’s late.

I am wearing… jeans and an NDSU Bison t-shirt.

From the sewing/craft room (aka. laundry room!)… mending lace on a camisole, a pretty skirt for Angelina, a soft blanket for Louis, pj bottoms for the three youngest boys (this is what I want to do and I have all the necessary supplies sitting on the sewing table).

From the school room... lists are done and I am starting to order some supplies.  This year, I’d like to have the syllabi done before Fall and the start of school.  Ideally, I’ll have the syllabi entered in Homeschool Tracker by summer time.

From the kitchen... Angelina made brownies to bring to her RE class.  On Sunday, I made Meatloaf and Twice-Baked Potatoes from “The Pioneer Woman Cooks.”  Today, Graham and I made chocolate chip cookies.

A successful moment… I met a deadline for a letter that HAD to be written today and I am once again up-to-date on finances.

A few plans for the rest of the week…
Monday: Zeke has his first basketball game/scrimmage tonight during half time of the high school basketball game.  He was so excited!  Eric left today for a week long Ag Show up in northern ND.

Tuesday: Dance class for Angelina

Wednesday-Thursday:   Home and home some more.

Friday/Saturday/Sunday:   Zeke has basketball practice Saturday morning, Eric is leading a crop judging work-out, and the snowmobiles arrive (two used snowmobiles … courtesy of my brother and a close friend of his … we’ve been looking/shopping for about a year and it’s easier to buy from trusted family and friends).

This was an assignment/worksheet in Zeke’s RE class a couple weeks ago.  Eric and I got a huge laugh out of his thrid ingredient – obviously!  I usually just look at the papers and toss them, but this one I just may keep for a while.

Mom vs. the virus

and, another one bites the dust – at 4:30am.  Trying to slide into the bathroom downstairs (don’t ask me why kids don”t head for their very own bathroom which is infinitely closer … upstairs), both area rugs were nailed.  Thank goodness all the stairs were missed.  I’m always looking at the bright side of things.  So, everything is cleaned, too, in a different area of the house.

The kid got bored right away, “Can I go to bed, now?”  I was asked as I started to plan my clean-up.  Pail in hand, I sent the child back to bed.  Another day at home.  Another mass missed.  Because my hubby teaches 3rd grade RE (and I pretty much made him call for a sub last week when the greater majority of us were ill and had no business being around people), he’ll be going to mass with the other kids.

I get it now, this virus was sent my way to

1. make me appreciate good health and increase our immunity

2. make me clean my area rugs

3. make me miss/crave/long for MASS. 

I’d appreciate prayers for Angelina, who remains healthy, but is still recovering from oral surgery.  May you and yours stay healthy and immune to this virus.

We (Angelina, Louis and I) stayed over in Fargo on Wednesday night because Angelina had early morning oral surgery on Thursday.  On our way out of the hotel at 6:30am, the temp was –1.  When we arrived at the out-patient center, the temp was –7.  When we left Fargo at about 10:40am, the temp was –11.  I thought surely it couldn’t get colder … so, I took a pic when the vehicle temp said –12.
Then …

… it read –13, so I took another pic.  Surely it won’t get colder, I thought!  Then …

… it dropped to –14.  There it stayed.  Thank goodness we drove right into the garage and didn’t have to feel the –14 with the wind.

BTW, Angelina recovered very well.  She was spoiled and treated to all sorts of soft food goodies the first two days.  Now, she’d like to eat something crunchier, but needs to wait.  She’s sleeping in her own bed tonight, after two nights on the recliner.
